Buying hunting land

How do I find hunting land for sale?

Search Where2Hunt by town, ZIP, county or state, then filter by price, acreage and the game mentioned in the listing. Every property shown is an active listing whose own description talks about hunting on the land, such as food plots, stands, blinds or deer and turkey hunting, on at least five acres.

What makes land good for hunting?

Look for food, water and cover together: timber edges, crop or food plot ground, a creek or pond, and thick bedding cover. Size matters less than layout, neighboring land use and hunting pressure. Walk the property in more than one season if you can.

How many acres do I need to hunt deer?

There is no single answer. Many hunters hunt deer on 20 to 50 acres when the habitat and neighbors are right, while others want 100 acres or more for room to manage. Check local firearm discharge setbacks, which can limit hunting on small tracts.

Do hunting rights come with the land when I buy it?

Usually, but not always. A seller or earlier owner can reserve hunting rights, and the land may have an existing hunting lease. Ask the listing agent in writing and have your attorney or title company confirm what conveys.

What should I check before buying hunting land?

Confirm legal access (deeded road frontage or a recorded easement), whether hunting rights convey, any current hunting lease and when it ends, covenants or conservation easements, local discharge rules, timber value and recent cutting. A survey and title work answer what a map pin cannot.

How much does hunting land cost per acre?

It varies widely by state, county, timber, water and improvements. Each Where2Hunt state and county land page shows the current median asking price per acre for listings in that area.

How does Where2Hunt decide which land is hunting land?
